We Spoke to the Mayor about funding robotics programs at local San Diego schools. We assured him that all schools, K-12, would benefit from the FIRST experience. We explained to him the advantages and the life lessons that can be learned from FIRST beyond just science and engineering, and the benefits of young women being involved, starting at a young age. |
At this same meeting we also met with Councilmen Faulconer. We presented the FIRST World Championships and talked about the advantages that would come with hosting this event in San Diego. We encouraged them to talk to FIRST about trying to have this happen.
The Councilman said he would take this into consideration but we would have to find a place large enough!
On our way out we ran into Councilman Scott Peters and had the opportunity to share FIRST with him. Guess what!? He agreed to speak at the FRC Regional Opening Ceremonies on March 8, 2008! He spoke about FIRST and the great benefit of the program to the students who are involved.
